對於生存在接近極地的人們來說,經常性的大風雪使得他們在交通上有很大的困難,因此發展出由體力優秀,且耐寒的狗狗來拉雪橇,就成了他們的主要交通工具,而這種體力好、跑的快、好訓練、且耐寒的狗狗就是「哈士奇」。
在毛色方面,哈士奇擁有多種色系,但基本上同的色系都會搭配上白色的體毛。其毛髮是屬於雙層結構,外面是一層膨膨的硬毛,也因此哈哈往往看起來會比實際來的大隻一些;內層則是柔軟而密的短毛,因此哈哈能耐的住極寒冷的天候,但相對熱對哈哈就有致命的殺傷力。
