This paper tries to make clear the relationship among official culture,mass culture and elite culture in history,and their contemporary new conflict;It holds that,with the mass culture style surpassing the townspeople culture style in market-oriented economy ,we should understand intellectuals modernistic rethinking about mass culture.

The term Fringe Literature is used to specify such old-style literature and "official literature" as old-style poetry, which has been excluded from the mainstream consciousness in contemporary Chinese literature.
