描述AlstoniaR.Br.鸡骨常山属，夹竹桃科，约50种，分布于热带非洲和亚洲至波里尼西亚，我国有6种，产西南部和南部。其中糖胶树A.scholaris（L.）R.Br.含丰富乳汁，可提制口香糖原料，鸡骨常山A.yunnanensisDiels根供药用，有降血压作用。叶轮生；花白色，排成顶生或近顶生的伞房花序式伞形花序；萼短，5裂；花冠高脚蝶状，喉部无毛或有到毛，裂片短；花药与住头分离，内藏；心皮2，离生，每心皮有胚珠多颗；蓇葖2，长而纤弱，有两端被长毛的种子。
