背向垫球是指背对出球方向一种垫球方法。其特点是垫击点较高。由于背对垫球方向，不便于观察目标和控制击球的方向和落点。
动作方法：背垫时，首先判断来球的落点、方向和离网的距离，迅速移动到球的落点处，背对出球方向，两臂夹紧伸直、插到球下。击球时，蹬地、抬头挺胸、展腹，直臂向后上方摆动击球。在垫低球时，也可利用屈肘、翘腕动作，以虎口处将球向后上方垫起
