八面山哨口遗址位于江西茨坪的西北面，海拔1484米，是井冈山军事根据地五大哨口之一。站在八面山眺望，四面八方的崇山峻岭尽收眼底，八面山由此得名。
八面山哨口地处江西与湖南两省的交界线上。1928年5月，井冈山军民在八面山上修筑了三个工事，设立哨口。1929年1月，在第三次反“会剿”中，彭包才、李克如等率领红五军第十大队和地方武装200余人在这里与敌人激战数日，打退敌人多次进攻，最终因寡不敌众，大部分红军将士壮烈牺牲。
