雄虫体长17-26毫米，翅长14-23毫米;雌虫体长22-29毫米，翅长15-27毫米。身体由黄绿至绿色、褐绿色。头后沿前腹背板的上端具有明显的褐色纵条纹。前翅黄绿或绿色，后翅浅黄褐色，半透明。后足股节内、外侧黄绿色，上下膝侧片褐色。头短，颜面稍向前倾斜。触角丝状，22-26节，长度刚达到前胸背板的后缘。复眼卵形。无头侧窝。前胸背板宽平，中隆线明显，但无侧隆线，3条横沟明显，后横沟位于中后方。
年发生1-2代，以其卵在上中的卵囊中过冬,次年5月间孵化为跳蝻(若虫)。昼夜活动。主要取食中稻叶片;据报导也会危害茶树。
