用以公布有关航行安全事项的定期或不定期出版物。内容包括航标的设置、变动和废除，各种危险物、障碍物的发现和消除情况，港湾码头的扩建和变更情况，各种界线、航行规章、航行警告、航行法规以及保证航行安全的其他规定。此外，还有航海图书的出版、改版和废止情况。它是改正海图和航路指南以及其他航海图书的依据。英国的《航海通告》由英海军海道测量局出版，发行较广，主要有每星期出版的周版和每年出版的年度摘要两种。周版内容有：①正式通告，是性质重要、长期有效的通告；②临时通告，是短期内有效的通告；③预先通告，是提前发布将要发生的变化的通告。周版还刊登世界无线电航行警告系统播发的仍然有效的航行警告。年度摘要每年元旦出版，刊载永久性的通告和到上一年底仍然有效的临时通告和预先通告。中国的《航海通告》由中国航海图书出版社编辑出版，有中文版和英文版。
