还有一种恒星集团叫做星协。它们是由物理性质相近、光谱型或恒星表面温度差不多的恒星组成的。结构相当松散。这些星的光谱型,在空间的运动显示出它们有共同的起源。
星协与星团虽然很相似,但并不相同。同一星协是由相类似的恒星组成的,也就是它们光谱型、表面温度、运动方向大致相同,而星团则不同,同一星团的恒星,具有各种不同的光谱型和物理性质。从结构上来看,二者差异较大。星协是相当松散的恒星集团,而星团是较密集的恒星集团。
