是与基金组织有关的储备资产之一，其目的是通过人为地创造一种储备资产以弥补当时作为主要储备资产的黄金的不足。作为国际结算的信用资产，其不具有内在价值。每隔一定时期，国际货币基金组织按照份额将其分配给会员国，会员国可以用它支付债务，或卖掉以获取外汇现金。它是无附带条件的流动资金。
