This paper argues that the corpus-based Contrastive Interlanguage Analysis(CIA) is a effective way of analyzing learner language,and that its focus on target language typicality and learner divergences serves as a guide in English vocabulary teaching,and in a sense,the teaching of English as a whole.

Compared with Contrastive Analysis(CA)and Error Analysis(EA),the corpus-based Contrastive Interlanguage Analysis(CIA)is a more sound way of analyzing learner language.
