属汉藏语??壮侗语族仡佬语支。主要分布在中国贵州毕节、安顺、遵义等地区和六盘水市，广西隆林和云南麻栗坡等县。使用人口6000多。分稿、阿欧、哈给、多罗 4个方言。仡佬语清的塞音、塞擦音声母分不送气和送气两套，大多数地区有小舌塞音，有清化的鼻音和边音。有复辅音声母。只有n、嬜两个韵尾。有4～6个声调。句子的语序是主语在谓语前,宾语在作谓语的动词后。数量词组作修饰语时在中心词之前。 数词和量词组合时一般是数词居前。在个别地区数词11～19与量词组合时,个位数居前，量词居中，"十"在后。如"十三个"说成"三个十"。名词、代名词、形容词、指示词作修饰语时在中心词后。单音节词占多数，合成词除带后加成分的是形容词外，都是名词。有大量的汉语借词。自有一套数词，只有个别数词和黎语同源。中国学者曾认为仡佬语属汉藏语系，语族、语支未定。1942年美国学者白保罗认为仡佬语、黎语、拉珈语和越南的拉绨语构成加岱语，这个加岱语与台语、印尼语构成一个语族，属原始南方语系，1975年又改称澳泰语系。中国学者通过比较研究，认为仡佬语属汉藏语系壮侗语族，自成一个语支，称仡佬语支。
