Employing Freud psychoanalytic personality theory, the paper, from the perspectives of living environment and three-level personality structure, thoroughly and deeply dissects the causes of Roderick Usher s insanity and reveals the inevitability of his tragedy and social significance of Edgar Allan Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher.

Through the compared analysis on the treatment by Freudian psychoanalysis theory and psychology theory in TCM,it was found that their common point embodied in its practicability and confirmation difficulty.
