该级船的主要任务是伴随航空母舰特混编队航行，直接为编队舰艇补给燃油、弹药、军需品，船上可携载 17.7万桶燃油、2150&127;吨弹药、500吨干货和 250吨冷冻货物。船上共设有 7个干货补给站和6个液货补给站；此外还有 3个双软管燃油接受站和 5个单软管燃油接受站。舰上共设有 15个补给站，其中右舷 6个，左舷 9个。&127;燃油补给站采用双软管、双探头加油系统后，可同时向航空母舰传送船用油和航空用油。为了进行垂直补给作业，船上搭载了 2架uh-46e直升机。
