教学机器(teaehing maehine)呈现经过程序设计的教学内容给学生学习的机器。美国心理学家普莱西(Pr““”“y，S.L.)在1924年创制了世界上第一台自教自学的机器。像打字机那样大小，上面有一长方形“窗口’，(称框面)，由框面呈现一个多重选择的问题，学生可按四个键中的一个，对问题做出选择性的回答。机器可把学生答的正误告诉学生。30年后，斯金纳根据同样道理设计了一台教学机器。由于他的鼓吹宣传，这种使用机器自己教学的办法不仅在教育界重新出现，而且引起了社会各界人员训练上的采用。后来其他心理学家在设计上又有改进，除矫正错误外，并备有矫止的说明与补充的材料。有的还有投射的装置，框面较为扩大，视域较为开阔，以利于学习的进行。可以通过文字或图片或是二者结合，把经过程序设计的教学内容教给学生;并通过录音带、键盘或收听、记录的设备给学生以回答的机会。 (赵欣冲撰戚立夫审)
