| 默顿(1910～ ) Merton，Robert King 美国社会学家。结构功能主义的代表人物之一。1910年7月5日生于费城。1931年获坦普尔大学学士学位，后进入哈佛大学学习，1936年获博士学位，后留校任教。1939 年起，先后在图雷因大学、哥伦比亚大学社会学系任教。曾任行为科学高级研究中心理事、哥伦比亚大学应用社会研究所副所长，美国哲学、社会学、社会研究协会会员和主席，东方社会学会主席，美国科学院院士，科学社会学研究会主席，瑞典皇家科学院外籍院士。默顿是继帕森斯之后结构功能主义的又一位杰出代表，他在批判帕森斯的理论过程中建立起经验功能主义，被L.A.科瑟尔等人誉为最精致圆熟的功能主义，他的中层理论在理论框架与经验研究之间、认识意义与实践意义之间架起了桥梁，并把以前认为是毫无联系的一些实际研究方向沟通起来，为社会学各种理论方法派别提供了一个相互汇合的基础；他的科学社会学思想为该分支学科的形成和发展奠定了基础。他运用负功能和功能替代的观点对官僚机制的研究，对作为社会组织重要因素的职业问题，特别是对医学教育的社会学研究，以及根据社会的结构分析对社会失范和异常行为等问题的探讨，在学术界颇有影响。 |
