性质:植物基因操作中之携带外来DNA的载体,并以可遗传的方式将它嵌入植物细胞之内。天然的载体有根癌根杆菌(Agrobacterium tumefaciens)的Ti质粒或发根农杆菌(A. rhizogenes)的Ri质粒以及DNA植物病毒。现在因Ti或Ri质粒太大,不易操作,常取其DNA复制及引发癌肿的基因与普通细菌质粒组成穿梭质粒,便于先在细菌(尤其是大肠杆菌)中操作、扩增,然后再引入植物。
