In this study, three types of urbanized area are used for the division of metropolitan, urban and town area, they are, Sha.
研究中首先划分上海市区内的建成区范围,然后划分出上海市主城市统计区、青浦区城市统计区和金山区张堰镇三种类型的城镇实体地域,以此来分别模拟大城市、中小城市和城镇的实体地域划分。

城市中基础设施和地面建筑物（构筑物）已经建成的地区，一般指城市建筑连接成片的市区。划定城市建成区的范围，应考虑自然地形、地貌、基层行政单位管辖界线等因素，以及城市各项用地的完整性，并尽可能同人口统计的范围相一致。有些城市近郊已建设的分散地段，虽然未同市区连成一片，但同市区联系十分密切或相当密切，已形成城市不可分割的组成部分，也视作城市建成区。
