Suzhou is the typical traditional city with river networks,and the waterfront of the old city is the space configuration with the most vitality and sight characteristics in the city.

Proceeding with the analyzing some practical problems in the construction of the city waterfront,some suggestions of the optimizing measure on the landscape ecology of the city with river networks are put forwarded.

Using the case study of the central sec- tion of Yongningjiang River in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, this paper discusses possibility of building a grid city based on ecological infrastructure in steady of rigid road system and tested the compatibility be- tween the negative planning approach and the con- ventional grid city model.
