风热侵袭于肺而致肺失清肃所造成，临床以咳嗽、痰稠色黄与风热表证共见为主要表现的证候。常见于感冒、咳嗽、哮喘、失音，以及西医的急慢性支气管炎等疾病。
风热之邪侵袭肺卫，影响肺主宣发肃降的生理功能，即可导致风热犯肺证。肺主气，司呼吸，开窍于鼻，外合于皮毛，肺叶娇嫩，通过口鼻与外界相通，易受外邪侵袭，不耐寒热。风热之邪犯肺途径有二：一是从鼻窍而入；二是从皮毛而入，即从其合而达肺。
风热犯肺的临床表现为，轻症只有咳嗽痰黄、发热、微恶风寒、鼻塞流浊涕、口干欲饮、咽痛等症状。风热为阳邪，易伤阴耗津，故发热重、恶寒轻，口渴欲饮。其窍为风热所壅，则鼻塞流浊涕；肺失清肃则咳嗽痰黄；风热上犯于咽喉则咽痛。风热犯肺，其症重者可致邪热内迫，肺热内郁，肺气上逆，出现咳喘气粗，甚则鼻煽，汗出，痰黄而黏，此为风热犯肺进一步发展而成之热邪壅肺证。
风热犯肺为邪在肺卫阶段，治当疏风散热，清肺解表，宜用桑菊饮加减。
