美国生物学家及性学家。1894年 6月23日生于美国新泽西州霍博肯,1956年8月25日逝世于美国印第安纳州布鲁明托。1916年毕业于包顿学院。1920年在哈佛大学获科学博士学位。他是一位昆虫生态学家，但使他闻名于世的乃是他对人类性行为的生态学研究。1938年后他创造了一套直接面谈的调查方法，对美国不同种族、不同地区、不同年龄、不同教育程度、不同职业等人们的性生活进行研究。他的调查内容十分详细，对被调查者提出的问题多达350个,包括了性生活的各个方面。被调查的总人数达到 18500人。他与其合作者根据大量的客观调查材料，写成了两部专著：《人类男性的性行为》(1948)及《人类女性的性行为》(1953)。他发现，性行为的方式受社会文化因素的影响，不同的社会文化背景，性行为有很大的差异。他的报告披露了令人震惊的事实，如37％的美国男人及13％的美国女人有同性恋行为。也有人对他的报告持怀疑态度，认为被调查者有可能没说实话。
