【来源】
为百合科植物华物理学楼Raris chinensis Franch.的根茎。
【植物形态】
多年生草本，高30～100cm。茎直立。叶5～8片轮生于茎顶，叶片长圆状披针形、倒卵状披针形或倒披针形，长7～17cm，宽2.5～5cm。花梗从茎顶抽出，通常比叶长，顶生一花，宽1～1.5mm，长为萼片的1/3至近等长；雄蕊8～10，花药长1.2～2cm。蒴果球形。花期5～7月，果期8～10月。生于山坡林下荫处或沟边的草丛阴湿处。主产广东、广西、江西、福建、陕西、四川。
【采制】
同云南重楼。
【性状】
根茎类圆锥形，常弯曲，直径1.3～3cm，长3～8cm。表面淡黄棕色或黄棕色，具斜向环节，环节突起不明显，茎痕半圆形或椭圆形，略交错排列；顶端有凹陷的茎残基，或有芽痕。质较坚实，易折断，断面平坦，粉质，少数部分角质。气微，味苦。化学成分含多种甾体皂甙，为薯蓣皂甙元（diosgenin）和偏诺皂甙元（pennogenin）的二、三、四糖甙。
