分布 在嫩江、松花江和乌苏里江流域繁殖;长江下游及沿海越冬;在河北、山东为旅鸟,台湾偶见
国家一级保护动物
大型涉禽。全长约120厘米。体羽几乎全为纯白色。头顶裸出部分鲜红色;额和眼先微具黑羽;喉、颊和颈大部为暗褐色。次级和三级飞羽黑色,延长弯曲呈弓状。尾羽短、白色。嘴灰绿色,脚灰黑色。
栖息于芦苇及其他荒草的沼泽地带。食水生植物的嫩芽、种子、水生昆虫、软体动物和鱼类等。4月中、下旬开始营巢产卵,筑巢于周围环水的浅滩上的枯草丛中。每窝产卵2枚。雌雄鸟轮流孵卵,孵化期20-33天。待幼鸟学会飞行,入秋后,丹顶鹤从东北繁殖地迁飞南方越冬。我国在丹顶鹤等鹤类的繁殖区和越冬区建立了扎龙、向海、盐城等一批自然保护区。在江苏省盐城自然保护区,越冬的丹顶鹤最多一年达600多只,成为世界上现知数量最多的越冬栖息地。
丹顶鹤羽色素朴纯洁,体态飘逸雅致,鸣声超凡不俗,在《诗经·鹤鸣》中就有“鹤鸣于九皋,声闻于野”的精彩描述。在中国古代神话和民间传说中被誉为“仙鹤”,成为高雅、长寿的象征,在诗词和中国画中,常被文学家、艺术家作为主题而称颂。
