鹤顶兰为鹤顶兰属的多年生常绿本,具圆锥状假鳞茎,叶椭圆状披针形,具折扇状脉,花葶一般在4-6月自假鳞茎了抽出,每葶着花15朵左右,花外面白色或黄色,里面红色,芳香,葶高60厘米左右,水养性好,可作切花。植株挺立潇洒,花也俏丽溢香,是盆栽佳品。
盆栽可用园土,砂和腐叶土各1份混合使用,并施粪干或豆饼作基肥。春季出房后,宜放置于半阴湿润的环境中,在荫棚下需保持有50%的透光率。它对环境湿度要求较高,夏季除保持盆土湿润外,还要经常周围喷水,以提高空气湿度。花后,植株有一个休眠阶段,此时,要适当控水,不要太潮。休眠后,新芽萌发,可每月施2-3次15%的饼肥水。10月下旬入室后,要保持5℃以上的温度和较好的光照,温室内温度保持12℃左右,则2-3月开花。
繁殖大多采用分株法。做法是在花后休眠期内,将假鳞茎分割,分盆的条件是必须有2个以上的假鳞茎。
