【植物形态】
落叶灌木，高1～1.5m。树皮灰褐色，小枝被柔毛。叶互生，长圆形或椭圆状披针形，长2.5～5cm，宽1～2cm，先端尖，边缘有浅细锯齿，下面沿主脉散生短柔毛；托叶线形，早落。花与叶同时开放，单生或2朵并生，花梗有稀疏短柔毛；萼片5，花后反折；花瓣5，白色或粉红色；雄蕊多数；心皮1。核果近球形，直径约1.5cm，熟时鲜红色，花期4～5月，果期5～6月。 生于荒山坡或砂丘边。主产黑龙江、吉林、辽宁、内蒙古河北、山东。
【采制】
夏、秋季采收成熟果实，除去果肉及核壳，取出种子，干燥。
【性状】
种子卵形，长5～8mm，直径3～5mm。表面黄白色或浅棕色，一端尖，另端钝圆。尖端一侧有线形种脐，圆端中央有深色合点，自合点处向上具多条纵向维管束脉纹。种皮薄，子叶乳白色，富油性。味微苦。
【化学成分】
含苦杏仁甙（amygdalin）、脂肪油、皂甙等。
【性味】
性平，味辛、苦、甘。
【功能主治】
润燥滑肠，下气，利水。用于津枯肠燥、食积气滞、腹胀便秘、水肿、脚气、小便不利。
【附注】
同属植物郁李P.japonica Thunb.或毛樱桃P.tomentosa Thunb.的种子亦作郁李仁入药。
