盘谷,字丽水,海盐人。志气超迈,博通经史。讲华严大意于杭之慧因寺,辩才无碍,七众倾服。后至松江,构精舍,勤修净业,日课弥陀佛号。年七十余,无疾,预为期,端坐而寂。(明高僧传)

诸大乘经,劝生净土,因通二种,一定二散。定,谓即心观佛,想彼西方依正主伴,唯心本具。我心空故,如来本空。我心假故,如来宛尔。我心中故,如来绝待。或想莲华开合,我居其中。合表即空,开表即假,四微体同,即表中道。故经云,诸佛如来是法界身,入一切众生心想中。是故汝等心想佛时,是心即是三十二相,八十随形好。是心作佛,是心是佛。此乃如来亲示唯心三昧,圆常观体。了彼净土生佛依正色心,悉我自心性具功德。即境为观,心外无佛,性外无土。观之不已,证无生忍。二者散善,用纯实心,信有西方,一心不乱,系念弥陀。一日七日,声声不绝,念念无间。经云,执持名号,一日七日,一心不乱,其人命终,阿弥陀佛,与诸圣众,现在其前。然事想彼国,但无三观,名散善耳。故三种净业,回向愿生,咸登极乐。吾祖智者云,根有利钝,行有定散。观佛三昧名定,修余善业,说以为散。散善力微,不能灭除五逆。此经明观,故得往生。是知若定若散,或钝或利,皆净土因,咸趣无生,永无退转矣。
