重庆万县人。中共党员。1939年毕业于北京大学外国语言文学系。历任中学英语教师，贵州大学讲师、副教授，重庆女子师范学院、相辉学院、重庆大学教授，重庆西南师范大学教授、教务长、副校长、党委副书记。四川省文联第三届委员、副主席，四川省作家协会理事、副主席、顾问、名誉主席。1934年开始发表作品。1954年加入中国作家协会。
