Judging from the newly created patterns of the melody, the standard melody and the guiding melody, this paper states that, by way of specific theoretic form, the discourses on melody in the Yuan Dynasty demonstrated their concret and pragmatic functions.

This paper promoted the notion of "real tasks" and suggested that real-world tasks, which are restricted to the classroom activities and which are used to rehearse or practice those tasks that are found to be important in the ESL real world, are not motivational enough for EFL students, because the real world of ESL is different from the one of EFL.
