又称启蒙小说,1900至1910年间受朝鲜近代教育、出版、国语等爱国文化启蒙运动的影响而出现的一种新的小说形式,代表作品有李仁稙的《雉岳山》、《鬼之声》、《银世界》,李海朝的《自由钟》、《牡丹屏》、《鬓上雪》,具然学的《雪中梅》,金教济的《显微镜》,安国善的《禽兽会议录》等。这些作品多取材于封建家庭内部的矛盾,对封建制度的黑暗和封建礼教的毒害有所揭露和批判。基本倾向是反封建、反侵略,主张文明开化和自主独立,在当时的历史条件下起了一定的积极作用。新小说在形式上虽然尚未完全摆脱古代小说的影响,但已接近于现代小说,是古代小说和现代小说之间一种过渡形式。1910年日本吞并朝鲜后,新小说的创作趋于沉寂,作者中也发生了分化。
