By means of questionnaire and interviewing the teachers,on the basis of analyzing the current situation of teaching of track and field in Hebei North University,this paper discusses the reasons of the teaching difficulties and offers some appropriate proposals.

With the tide of education reform which is featured with test oriented education-quality education transition, the teaching of track and field is facing new opportunities and challenges.

In order to help the athletics turn the corner and play a more important role in character education,the paper thereupon comes up with some solutions and suggestions such as reforming athletics teaching models of the moment,building a physique improvement system,enriching teaching forms,and perfecting exam designs and scoring system.

As athletics teaching is the basis of physical education,it is indispensable to have moral education in athletics teaching.
