会唱歌的八哥鸟
八哥是我国长江以南地区的留鸟，体长大约240毫米。论它的长相并不出众，全身黑色，头顶的羽毛较长，形如冠状，翅膀各有两块白斑，飞翔时从下面看，宛如“八”字，故有“八哥”之称。它的名气可不小，无论是南方北方，还是大人小孩，只要说起“八哥”来，都知道八哥会“说话”，有一副好嗓子。
的确，八哥是一种性情很温顺的鸟，它的鸣声嘹亮，富于音韵，而且经过一定方法驯养后，可以学会简单的人言，如“欢迎”、“你好”、“再会”“几点啦”等等。不仅如此，如果更下一番功夫训练，它还可以唱出动听的歌来呢！
驯养八哥要从幼鸟着手，在食物的引诱下，使它去掉对人的胆怯心理，能听从主人的召唤。关键问题要对八哥的音头进行加工，一般称作“捻舌”。用手指沾上香灰，伸到鸟嘴内，使香灰包住鸟舌，然后从轻到重地进行揉捻，舌端会脱掉一层硬壳，养半个月以后，再进行1次，这样便能教它说话了。另外，还有一种方法，用剪刀把鸟的舌头修成圆形，再进行训练。
训练方法比较简单，每日清晨，找一个安静的环境，把八哥放在一旁，反复说出固定词汇，用食物逗引它跟着学，久而久之，使鸟形成了一种条件反射，八哥就能“说话”了。如果把八哥训练出能唱出一二句歌曲来，那更是有趣的事。目前，上海动物园就饲养着一只能唱《东方红》的八哥，声音很逼真。另外，五十年代初，在贵州省的黄平县，有一人养的八哥能唱《国歌》，当人们围在笼子旁时，八哥便慢腾腾地唱起来，有时它也闹脾气不肯唱，人一吓唬它，它急忙用快速唱起来，结果听起来不伦不类，使人发笑。
