记者将采访中采集的素材，加工成一定形式的新闻作品，然后通过新闻工具传播出去。新闻写作是认识客观事物， 提炼主题， 挑选材料，加以组织和表达的制作过程；也是根据新闻事实的内容赋予一定的表现形式(新闻体裁)的过程。新闻写作首先要提炼新闻主题。在主题确定之后，决定采取何种新闻体裁，根据主题和体裁选择和组织新闻素材。新闻写作要用事实说话，文字表达明瞭，逻辑清晰，条理分明。新闻写作要与新闻采访紧密衔接，迅速、及时地报道新闻事实。新闻写作除上述一般要求外，不同形式的新闻体裁还有各自的具体要求(见新闻体裁)。
