Based on an investigation of the Temple of the Heavenly Kong of Dunhuang and the text of the Suramgama-Samadhi-Sutra, the authors hold that the Temple of the Heavenly King is a temple of the Suramgama-Samadhi, established by the Tibetans to counteract the influence of the various non-Buddhist sects upon the Tantrist doctrine and the corruption of the monks.
笔者认为,莫高窟“天王堂”实质上是“楞严坛”;“天王堂”密法体系应是从吐蕃时期沿袭下来;“天王堂”最早可能始建于吐蕃时期,针对当时敦煌受到多种佛教流派的冲击与僧人违背律仪的普遍情况而建;曹延禄重修“天王堂”,应该是由于当时末法思想流布,于末法中维护佛法的一种手段,可能与藏经洞的封闭时间接近。
