唐代传奇。旧题牛僧孺撰。故事写迷途的奇遇。篇中以僧孺自述口吻,说他在德宗贞元间举进士落第,经洛阳,将归宛、叶,过鸣皋山时,因暮色苍茫而迷路,忽为异香吸引,夜入汉文帝母薄太后庙。薄后亡灵召来包括戚夫人、王昭君、潘妃、杨贵妃在内的前朝及当朝帝王的貌美的妃子宫人,与之宴乐赋诗。席间,薄太后询问当今皇帝为谁?牛僧孺以德宗对。因德宗为代宗沈后之子,故杨贵妃戏称他为"沈婆儿"。酒后,薄后又令昭君陪僧孺寝宿。次日晨,僧孺辞去,回望庙宇,见"荒毁不可入,非向者所见矣"。以虚构故事写艳遇,唐人小说并不罕见,但本篇涉及当朝妃子,故与众不同。作品情节简单,人物刻画着墨不多。
此篇作者,历来说法不一,而其写作意图实与中晚唐统治集团内部朋党斗争有关。世传牛僧孺政敌李德裕因此篇而作《周秦行纪论》,攻击僧孺"以身与帝王后妃冥遇,欲证其身非人臣相也,将有意于'狂颠'。及至戏德宗为'沈婆儿',以代宗皇后为'沈婆',令人骨战,可谓无礼于其君甚矣!"又刘轲《牛羊日历》(一说为皇甫松所作《续牛羊日历》)亦引用《周秦行纪》以诋毁牛僧孺。而北宋初贾黄中以为《周秦行纪》实非牛僧孺作,乃是李德裕门人韦瓘所撰,"以此诬僧孺"(宋代张洎《贾氏谈录》、晁公武《郡斋读书志》)。近世研究者多从此说。岑仲勉则考证韦瓘非李德裕门人,且与德裕关系不甚密切,故对贾氏说法持怀疑态度,并亦怀疑《周秦行纪论》非李德裕所作(岑著《隋唐史》卷下四十五节注解二十八)。
