国际安徒生奖是目前世界儿童文学界公认的最高荣誉，因其独特的地位，人们常常称它为“小诺贝尔奖”。
国际安徒生奖由国际少年儿童读物联盟（ｉｂｂｙ）于１９５６年开始设立，每两年一次，授予儿童图书作家和插图画家，以此奖励并感谢他们写出了好书。这个奖项由丹麦女王玛格丽特二世赞助，并以童话大师安徒生的名字命名。ｉｂｂｙ是一个致力于在世界范围内推广少年儿童图书的公益性组织，成立于１９５３年，总部设在瑞士的巴塞尔，目前在世界各国有６０多个分会，中国分会就设在北京的中国少年儿童出版总社。
