古典戏曲、小说研究家。字子书。河北省沧县王寺村(今属南皮县)人。1928年毕业于北平师范大学国文系，历任北平师范大学、辅仁大学、燕京大学、北京大学的助教、讲师、副教授、教授。40年代开始着力于古典戏曲的研究，尤注重元代戏曲、古代傀儡戏和影戏。所著《述也是园旧藏古今杂剧》（1940年12月《北平图书馆季刊》，1953年上海杂志公司新版更名为《也是园古今杂剧考》)，将所发现的清初钱曾也是园藏元明杂剧230余种加以考订，述其藏弃的经过,剧本的原委,涉及收藏、册籍、版本、校勘、编类、品题诸方面。他的《傀儡戏考原》(1944年稿,1952年重订),提出“近代戏曲原出宋代傀儡戏、影戏”的说法。他的《元曲家考略》（1953年初版，1981年重版）,分为四稿,收录元曲家85人，征引颇富。所著《沧州集》（1965版）卷3及卷4，辑有关于元明戏曲论文11篇，包括戏曲演唱源流、戏曲术语诠释、戏曲家行年考订等内容。孙楷第早年从事训诂校勘之学，著有
