The paper applies the category theory of the cognitive linguistics to the classification of the English vocabulary,which can be classified into three categories-basic,super-ordinate and subordinate category words,and to the exploration of the characteristics of the basic category words-simple form;high frequency;productiveness;wide use;and metaphorical nature.
