Theophrastu's theory of character
西奥菲斯塔性格说(Theophrastu’s theoryof character)古希腊学者、植物学家西奥菲斯塔提出的性格学说。它建立在根据经验与观察材料对不同典型性格进行详细描述的方法之上，也被称为文艺的性格说。西奥菲斯塔在《性格》一书中，生动描绘了30个具有贪婪、粗野、虚荣、自大、自私、胆小等消极性格特征的人物。在另一本已经失传的书中还描述了具有正面性格特征的人物。这种方法直到17~18世纪仍为法国的伦理学家所采用，也为历代的思想家和文学家所采用。 (王启康撰彭耽龄审)
