﹝出华严经疏﹞
南中三教者，谓自齐朝已后，江南诸师，立此三教，判如来一代所说之法也。
［一、渐教］，谓佛说法，始自鹿苑，终至双树，从小至大，是名渐教。
［二、顿教］，谓佛最初为诸菩萨说华严经，如日初出，先照高山，是名顿教。
［三、不定教］，谓别有经，虽非顿、渐所摄，而明佛性常住，即胜鬘经及金光明经等，是名不定教。
