第一章中首先分析“抽象理想”的背景、含义和作用,将“抽象理想”分解为“儒史合一”与新“夷夏之辨”这两个层面。

大型不定期学术研究刊物。专门发表有关中国历史、文学、哲学、语言文字等方面的研究考证文章。1962年创刊，由中国科学院哲学社会科学部所属《新建设》编辑部编辑，中华书局出版。每辑约三十至五十万字。至1966年停刊时，出版了四辑。1978年复刊后，改由中华书局编辑部编辑，仍由中华书局出版。至1988年底，已出版三十辑，共发表五百多位作者的九百多篇文章，约一千一百万字。以"崇尚实学，去绝浮言"为办刊方针，注重资料和考证，强调实证性、创造性，提倡实事求是的学风和质朴平实的文风，受到国内文史界的好评。近年来，又注意发表海外学者的论文，引起港台学术界和国外汉学界的关注，成为中外学术文化交流的一个重要园地。
