数学系现有教职工41人，其中教授3人，研究员1人，副教授21人，高级实验师1人，副研究馆员1人，另有兼职教授5人。系里教师具有比较高的科研和教研水平，具有丰富的教学经验，是一支知识结构、年龄结构、职称结构比较合理的师资队伍。系里教职工中有1人为安徽省跨世纪学术带头人，2人享受国务院和省政府津贴。自1983年以来，全系教职工在科研与教研方面取得丰硕的研究成果，主持重要科研教研项目12项，获得科研教学奖励19项，出版著作10余部，发表论文430多篇，其中国际性学术刊物上10余篇，国家重点和国家级刊物上50多篇。
数学系设有几何代数、函数论、分析、初等数学四个教研室，主办《中学数学教学》刊物，该刊物为省级刊物，曾先后多次被评为全国优秀期刊、华东地区优秀期刊和省优秀期刊。
数学系设有“数学与应用数学”和“数学教育”两个本、专科专业，目前全系在籍学生1000多人，其中全日制在校普通本科生、普通专科生及专升本学生共745人。另外，数学系先后承担了基础教育新课程国家级培训者培训任务，承担了安徽省初中骨干教师培训和安徽省高中骨干教师培训任务，承担全省高中数学教师的继续教育培训任务，以及专升本自考的助学教学任务等。
