Previous studies almost hold the view that the Chinese translated Buddhist Scriptures are inclined to use a kind of particle just as syllabic complement and with no grammatical meaning due to its special literary style of 4-word one pause, and Yu(于/於) interposed between the verb and the noun is a case in point.

1.曲词中在曲律规定的字数之外增加的字。常用以补足语气，增加声情色彩。它在歌唱时不占重要拍子，不能用于句末，不能做韵脚。字数不论，一般小令衬字少，套数多，杂剧更多。也称垫字。
