孙雄早有继《湖海诗传》后纂集道光、咸丰以来诸家诗，编为"诗史"之志。光绪末，任职学部，遂得暇陆续纂辑，稿本初名《道咸以来所见诗》。光绪三十四年起,以钢板手写油印出版；为完成其"诗史"宿愿,改名《道、咸、同、光四朝诗史一斑录》。正编4册,从阮元以下94家，至宣统三年(1911)止，共印至20编，各编收数十家不等。宣统二年，又将油印之第1至8编整理增删,合刻为《道、咸、同、光四朝诗史》甲集；次年,将第 9至16编刻为乙集，此书有保存一些诗史资料的价值，但由于编者思想守旧，所录篇什多数为师友寄赠而未加抉选，反映时代课题的很少，文字讹误亦多。
