This dissertation is intended to probe into abridged translation of literary texts from a new perspective on the basis of a case study of Der Traum der roten Kammer by Franz Walter Kuhn (1884-1961), the abridged, incomplete German version of Hong Lou Meng, the greatest of the repertoire of classical Chinese novels, generally known in the English-speaking world as the Dream of the Red Chamber.
本论文以描写译学和变译理论为框架,把《红楼梦》德文译本作为典型个案,通过与原本和其他《红楼梦》英文变译本的对比分析观察、描写其外在特征,总结其对原本进行了怎样的翻译操作,然后深入到译者所处的广阔社会文化环境解释其变译的根本原因。
