时奄(f ashion)非理智的与过渡性的行为项目或行为模式的流传现象。这种行为模式具有以下特征:(l)无阶级性，在各个不同的阶层、阶级间流传。它的发起人通常是社会名流，一旦开了风气就成为他们寻求地位或是自我表现的手段。(2)文明开放社会将有的现象。(3)以持续的时间讲，时髦现象处于风格与时尚之间。(4)自我宣扬的工具。借着时髦标新立异，提高社会地位，但仍保留原团体中一分子的地位，所以，它是自我个体化的手段。(5)模仿与暗示性强烈。(6)一种抒情的社会运动。时髦是一种发泄不满或被压抑情绪的表现。时髦与时尚最显著的差别是时尚所流行的项目对社会来讲，微不足道，对社会影响很小。时尚仅仅流行于某一阶层、社区或某一同质群体，而时髦则流行于社会各个阶层与异质群体之中，另外时髦的流传时间显示出有组织性。 (林乘贤撰沈德灿审)
