巴拉圭诗人、小说家。曾任《祖国》杂志记者和编辑，1947年起被流放，长期侨居阿根廷。他是拉丁美洲文学中"神奇的现实"流派的代表人物之一。他的杰作《人的儿子》(1960)描写巴拉圭人民从19世纪中叶起至20世纪30年代"厦谷战争"为止反抗独裁统治的近百年斗争史，表现了人民要求自由的愿望与社会对这一愿望的限制之间的冲突。作者在这部小说中运用了许多瓜拉尼语的表达方式，使作品带有浓厚的乡土气息。他的作品还有诗集《歌唱黎明的夜莺》（1942）、《燃烧的桔林》（1960），小说《叶丛雷声》（1933）。《闲汉》(1966)、《水上行》(1967)、《莫利恩西娅》(1969)以及《我，至高无上者》（1974）。后者是一部历史小说，揭露巴拉圭独裁者弗朗西亚，这部作品成为70年代拉丁美洲文学中反寡头政治的优秀长篇小说之一。
