The paper discusses the necessity of offering Social and Cultural Background course to English majors at vocational colleges, identifies some major drawbacks the course faces and attempts to put forth some advice on improving the teaching of this course from the perspectives of textbook compilation, teaching guidelines, models, and methodology.
