简介：
偃师商城有内城（现称小城）、外城（现称大城）之分，以往人们所知道的偃师商城的城垣，属于其大城；在大城之内还有小城，其平面大致呈长方形，南北长约1100米，东西宽约740米，它的南、西城墙以及东城墙的南段，与外城城墙重合。以前发现的宫城，正位于小城南北中轴线上。通过发掘可知内城的建造早于外城，外城城墙市在内城城墙的基础上扩建而成。根据可靠的地层关系，偃师商城的大城与小城的建造年代之间，存有一段距离，它们之间的叠压打破关系，并非“同期打破”关系。大城是在小城建成并使用一段时间后，才开始建造。内城的发现对商文化上限的认定、夏商文化分界和偃师商城布局、年代及性质的研究都具有极为重要的意义。
