Based on the analysis of the general circulation, sub-tropical system, Continental High, and South Asian high, it is concluded that the formation of the drought in 2002 over the Sichuan Basin was mainly caused by the Continental High which maintained for a long time, while the sub-tropical weather system was weaker than that in normal years.
