常绿乔木，高可达30m，胸径60cm以上。树冠初阔圆锥行，中老年树冠呈不规则状。树皮灰褐色，薄片状剥落。大枝伸展，当年生枝黄褐色。叶线形，长1.3～3cm，宽0.2cm，先端钝尖，横切面菱形，有白色气孔线，叶螺旋状排列在小枝上，小枝上有木质叶枕。球果卵状圆柱形，长4~8cm，径3m左右，初绿色，成熟后褐色；种鳞宽三角形，先端钝圆，背有条纹。
分布与习性:
产中国。幼树耐阴性强、耐寒，喜生长在冷凉、湿润、肥沃、排水良好的微酸性、中性棕壤土或森林腐殖土中。根系浅，抗风能力差。在高温、干旱、瘠薄，土质密实环境生长不良，忌水涝。稍耐盐碱土壤。
