描述：Vacciniacea.越桔科，双子叶植物，约22属，400种，广布于全世界，主产地为温带，我国有4属，69种，南北均有分布，有些供观赏用，有些种类的果可食。灌木；叶互生，单叶，无托叶；花两性；萼管与子房贴生，顶4－5裂，脱落或宿存；花冠合瓣，裂片4－5，覆瓦状排列；雄蕊通常为花冠裂片数之2倍，花药孔裂；子房下位，2－10室；胚珠多数，生于中轴胎座上；果为一浆果或核果，顶端常冠以宿存的萼裂片。本科在Engler系统中置于杜鹃花科内作为Vaccinioideae亚科处理。
